Toyota NSW Engine ECU Pin

Toyota NSW Engine ECU Pin

This page details the factory wiring of the Toyota NSW engine ECU pin in automatic transmission systems.

The engine ECU uses the NSW to detect when the automatic transmission shifter is in the park/neutral positions.

When the automatic transmission shifter is in the N or P shift positions the park/neutral switch is closed and the NSW engine ECU pin is grounded via the starter relay coil.  The voltage at the engine ECU NSW pin is ~0V when the automatic transmissions shifter is in the N or P positions..

When the automatic transmission shifter is not in the N or P positions (i.e. D, 2, L, or R positions), the park/neutral position switch is open and the voltage at the engine ECU NSW pin becomes battery voltage due to the internal pull up resistor to battery voltage.
