This page intends to detail information relating to the Adaptronic aftermarket engine ECU.

 

 

Adaptronic Toyota 6 Wire Idle Speed Control Valve (ISCV) Wiring

Adaptronic Wiring & Configuration

It is conventional to wire the Toyota 6 Wire ISCV to use four low current Auxiliary Outputs from the Adaptronic (please see the section below titled Driving Toyota 6 Wire ISCV using two AuxOuts in regards to how this can be reduced to two outputs).

 

My suggestion is to wire according to the following table, however this is not a requirement as long as you make sure that the wire that connects to the  ISCV1 pin on the ISCV is connected to the Adaptronic output that is configured as Hold 2 (and so forth for the remaining ISCVx according to the below table).  The pinout of the Toyota ISCV plug is shown in the below image.

 

Note: That the sequence Hold 1, Hold 2, Hold 4, Hold 3, will also work, however looking at the waveforms Hold, 2, Hold, 4, Hold, 3 Hold 1 is slightly closer to the OEM waveform.

Note: At all times Hold 4 = /Hold 1 and Hold 3 = /Hold 2 ('/' means inverted).

Adaptronic Operation

We can see that the Adaptronic effectively outputs a waveform that is equivalent to the OEM waveform under steady state movement conditions. 

The initial 'starting' of the waveform is slightly different due to the fact that the Adaptronic configuration always has two coils of the ISCV powered. 

Having two coils of the ISCV powered at all times is different to the OEM operation.

 

 

Adaptronic Idle Stepper Motor Output Patterns

The user manual table  that depicts the various Adaptronic idle stepper motor outputs patterns does not seem to align with real world data acquired from an Adaptronic ECUs (at least the e420c that this user has tested with a CRO).

 

Below is an image that depicts the various Adaptronic idle stepper motor outputs patterns as observed from an e420c, firmware revision 10.000.

 

Driving Toyota 6 Wire ISCV using two Adaptronic AuxOuts

A clever observer will note that you could "free up" two aux outputs from the Adpatronic by creating a small circuit due to the fact that at all times Hold 4 = /Hold 1 and Hold 3 = /Hold 2 ('/' means inverted).

 

I have not at this stage personally tried the below circuit, but plan to in the near future.  I see no reason that it will not work. It might be prudent to use transistors with a higher current rating that the 2N7000 given that the ISCV resistance can be as low as 10 Ohms according to the MA70 TSRM.
